Discipleship, quite simply, is walking with God, truly loving and learning from him; every moment, every day, in every circumstance. When we realize we’ve drifted away from him, we turn back, because with him is the only safe place. But sometimes, activity can feel like intimacy, and others’ expectations of our service and devotion can quietly move onto the throne. Bible study, ministry and fellowship are indicators and instruments of discipleship, but as substitutes for it, they eventually disintegrate into lifeless and destructive compulsion and idolatry.
